Ben Whittaker, Museum Manager, on a new book that would make a great Christmas present:
Do you have a loved one who is into local history, particularly Fleetwood fishing history? Then our new book ‘Harriet FD111’ could be the perfect Christmas gift!
The book tells the fascinating story and history of the Fleetwood fishing vessel Harriet, which is on display here at Fleetwood Museum (accessible again from 2ndApril 2019 when we open again to the public!).
Harriet is Fleetwood’s last wooden sailing trawler, and one of the last surviving fishing smacks in the UK. For 83 years she served as a trawler working out of Fleetwood. Harriet is of national significance, recognized by her inclusion in the prestigious National Historic Fleet. 2018 marks the 125 year anniversary of Harriet’s launch and maiden voyage.
The book is written by Fleetwood Museum volunteer John Baker, who has drawn together information from the museum collections and other sources.
